SGTopless Night Drive - 23rd April 2011

On the 23rd April, I joined the SGTopless group at Kallang Leisure Park for a quick gathering before heading off with them to the BMW.SG Night Drive.

The SGTopless community is, as its name suggests, a group of people who like to ride with the top down and gets convertible owners or ex-convertible owners together regardless the brand or country of origin of their cars. Once everybody assembled, it was time to head for Changi Airport, the gathering point for the BMW.SG Night Drive. Under the cloak of darkness, the group of about 15 cars made their way East with the wind in their hair.

After the Night Drive’s last stop at the Big Splash, the SGTopless group decided the night was still too young to head back home and around 20 cars drove off to continue touring the island. One fun element about this community is that they like to drive in new areas and regularly change their itinerary to enjoy new roads and scenery the small island of Singapore has to offer.

This time, the convertibles headed for the Yishun Dam and Seletar airport for a chat, while enjoying the fresh night air.

When the clock hit 3am, the weary but happy group disassembled, most heading back home, and a few of them going to treat themselves to a nice supper before heading back home and hitting the pillow, probably planning a route for the next meetup.

You can find SGTopless on their forum: http://www.sgtopless.com/
Thanks a lot to the whole SGTopless community for this great night drive, and special thanks to Alvin and his sleek black Z4 for the ride!

BMW Night Drive 23rd April 2011

On Saturday 23rd of April, The online community BMW.SG organized a charity night drive to gather its members for a leisurely tour around Singapore, but also to help the Children's Charities Association.
The drive had an amazing response, with over 70 cars showing up at 9:30pm at the Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 carpark, their generous owners donating a whopping total of S$4,863.

After a speech from the Children Charities Association's Deputy Chairman, Ms. Arashin Santhana, and a itinerary briefing from the BMW.SG crew, the large group made its way back to their noble steeds and the long convoy hit the road, driving west to the first stop at Raffles Marina in Tuas.

After the big group assembled, chatted and admired the cars, it was decided to hit the road again to head to the Big Splash at East Coast, thus the convoy drove off, heading east this time.

Arriving at destination, the BMW.SG group preyed on the carpark and enjoyed yet another relaxed break. It was decided, after about an hour that it was time to call it a night and most went back. On my side, I headed out with the SGTopless group which, as the name clearly hints, is mostly composed of convertibles, for an extended night drive that finished around 4am, read more about it here.

What impressed me the most about the BMW.SG and SgTopless communities, is that the very next day, on the Sunday 24th, some of them still showed up for the BMW.SG monthly meetup at Kallang Leisure Park.
Albeit smaller in number than the previous night, some of the car lovers made it to the gathering for more car talk. That's what I call a real dedication to the motoring World and to the driver's community!

Kudos to BMW.SG and its organizers, to SGTopless and all the forum members, their families and friends for the great night and for the generous donations to the Children Charities Association. You all sure make a difference!
Also special thanks to Alvin for driving me around all night!
