Most of you will be familiar with Angry Birds, and for those of you who are not, it's a game for Apple's series of portable devices which consist, in a nutshell, in sling-shooting birds to destroy the evil pig's hideouts to rescue the stolen bird's eggs. This simple yet funky game has started a real trend here, with soft toys and such starting to sell everywhere.
During last week's Suzuki Swift meetup, one of the cars was decorated with Angry Birds stickers and this made me realize how similar these rides were to those birds: they are small, round-ish shaped, come in many funky colors and some of them are angry, very angry. Whether you can fit them in a big slingshot and fire them away to destroy evil pigs' hideouts I won't say, but I'm pretty sure the pigs wouldn't dare steal eggs again after receiving one or two Swifts in their faces.
I think this meetup was the highest in color I've ever experienced, with red, blue, white, yellow and green rides flaunting their attributes, and all degrees of modifications, ranging from stock to mild bodykitting to totally wild mods, such as an outstanding white Swift, which quantity of after-market care and originality really impressed me.
This car is an "all show" kind of ride, and putting up a show is something she surely knows how to do! As she drives in, it just seems like another Swift with a pronounced VIP style, with a pearl white paint job, full rims, body kit, and other than a change of badges, nothing seems really out of the ordinary. Until she parks, let the pneumatic suspensions drop her to the ground and open her lambo doors to let her owner out. And then the show begins: a blue light theme runs through the car, starting from the exterior where LEDs shine from behind the rims, in the door handles and headlights, to the interior where a blue floodlight sets the tone on the white upholstery and its drinking stations (shot glasses included) at the front passenger seat and between the rear seats. To complement this, about 15 LED screens have decided to move in the small swift, setting up shop in the doors, the centre console and literally invading the boot to complement the beautifully featured sound system.
In contrast to the white extravagant Swift was a green angry bird which had much less show but definitely more go, with its weight-saving stripped out interior and power mods that help it race around Malaysian racetracks.
Overall, the swiftclubsg and MRSS feature some very interesting rides and their meetups carry a surprisingly wide range of car tuning types and are definitely worth the look.
Beware evil egg-stealing pigs, the Angry Swifts are here to stay...
Special thanks to Rian for making the meetup happen!
